Sporay Visuals and Projection Mapping - The Lash, LA, CA (5/14/13)
Posted May 17, 2013 at 2:04am
Sporay (Eva Aguila & Brock Fansler) was invited to participate in the ŠKVER festival in Mali Losinj, Croatia. While there they collaborated with fellow artist Vana Gacina to create a sculpture of sound and light.
The object is played much like an instrument, as different light patterns create an unexpected, yet controllable, array of frequencies and oscillations. The performance was held on June 16, 2012.
Our performance at qujOchÖ in Linz, Austria.
In late 2011 we invited Ilpo Väisänen (FIN), Richard Eigner (AUT), Billy Roisz (AUT), MSHR (USA), Pomassl (AUT) and Sporay (USA), all of them dedicated to experimental music, to choose tools, machines and materials out of a hardware store catalogue. They selected electrical leaf vacuums, toilet seats, a tile cutter, different tiles, hammers, nose pliers, steel brushes, sandpapers, paint brushes, pvc pipes, steel cables, an electrical fly swatter, a mole scarer, glulam, a spinning laser level, floodlights, ventilators, metal plates, door chimes and a lot of houseplants. The musicians used those things for an unique live performance. We recorded the sounds, went to some local hardware stores and brought them back our imagination of muzak. [NOISE AS ART] Portland is apparently becoming a haven for experimental musicians. We recently acquired Mark McGuire of the drone-tastic band Emeralds, as well as welcoming the husband-and-wife duo Sporay to join our cabal of music makers and art lovers. The minds behind Sporay are Eva Aguila, a musician who has compiled a stunning discography of work using monikers like Kevin Shields and Gang Wizard, and Brock Fansler, a creator of collage and noise. Together they dream up head-spinning swirls of tones, playful bits of melody, and rushes of gorgeous, expansive resonance. Catch them here as they prepare for an upcoming tour of Europe.
